Learn how to attract birds to your yard by creating a bird-friendly garden with native plants. This talk focuses on providing the essentials birds need to thrive in your yard: a safe habitat, water and food. Discover the flowers, shrubs and trees that offer food for birds directly or support the insects they eat, and learn why eliminating insecticides is critical for sustaining a healthy bird population. Take home a plant list and resources for beginning birdwatchers.
FIRST-TIME REGISTRANTS: If you are a Centerville/Washington Township resident, please enter Dayton as your city when creating an account. The system WILL NOT recognize you as a resident if you enter Centerville or Washington Township as your city.

Courtney Denning has been interested in nature and studying wildlife since childhood. She started bird watching at her local nature center in junior high and continued her college natural studies with a plant ecology major at Ohio University. She has worked as an environmental educator, social media manager, and library program manager. Before working at Deeply Rooted Landscapes, she worked at the Piqua Public Library, where she started the Piqua Seed Library. Since beginning work at DRL in June 2022, she has been creating garden designs, doing consultations, and managing the social media accounts and website. She has been creating native plant gardens at her home since 2016. She doesn’t have a lot of space, but in less than ¼ acre, she is growing 200 native Ohio plants.
If you realize you are unable to attend ahead of time, please contact the Park District. Having accurate registration allows us to properly utilize our staff and volunteers as well as offer spots to those on the waiting list.
