This program is a part of the state-wide Ohio Young Birder's Club which is administered by the Black Swamp Bird Observatory. CWPD and Play Kettering are Southwest Chapter Sponsors.

Summer and Winter Sessions are hosted by Play Kettering
Spring and Fall Sessions are hosted by the Centerville-Washington Park District

All participants must be OYBC members. Young Birder's Club memberships are $10/year and allow for more birdwatching opportunities for your child. Memberships must be sent in to the main OYBC office and will be verified. If you have any questions about membership, please reach out.

Adults wishing to become Advisors must become an official CWPD volunteer and be background screened in addition to registering through the Ohio Young Birder's Club administrative office.

Field Guides
It is recommended for members to bring a field guide or have an identification app on their smartphone. There are many choices and each person must choose the guide that will work best for them. If you are unsure of which field guide or app to provide for your child, feel free to have them try out/borrow a variety of guides from the library or the Park District before making a commitment. We will have several types available to try out at our meetings!

Life Lists
Some birders choose to keep a Life List. This is a list of every species they have seen on their birding journey. Some write them in a notebook, others keep them on an app.

Binoculars
Not everyone uses binoculars when they go birding, but they can be a helpful tool. 8x42 magnification is recommended. We have a limited supply of binoculars that can be borrowed during club sessions.
